Please note: Anyone who has not used Duo with any BU service we will exclude at this time.

Within a few hours of enrollment in Duo for Office 365, you will be prompted to re-enter your email password, after which you will receive a Duo prompt to complete the login process. You should not receive further Duo prompts except when using web browsers and new devices. You may see the option “Remember me for 30 days,” but it may not be necessary depending on the device.

On some mobile devices, you may need to use the Outlook app for email (Android) or remove and re-add your BU account (iPhone and iPad). Computers running Office 2013 or earlier are not compatible with Duo for Office 365 and will be upgraded to a newer version of Office. Mac users should use Outlook 2016 or newer.

What you need to do: If you use a Windows computer not managed and patched by BUMC IT, you should verify it is using Office 2016, 2019 or 365. If BUMC IT manages your computer and you have Office 2013 or earlier, we will try to upgrade you to Office 2019 during our Thursday morning patching windows. If you use a Mac, you should verify you use Outlook 2016 or newer. If you use Mac Mail, it will only work if you are on OS version 10.14 (Mojave) or higher.

On the scheduled day your department will be automatically enrolled and within a few hours you will be prompted to re-enter your password in your device’s e-mail app. Make sure you have your preferred Duo phone available.

Anyone needing an exception to Duo for Office 365 needs to be approved by their department chair who can contact BUMC IT. Ideally before June 18 at noon. We can also temporarily un-enroll someone if needed.

Let us know if you have any other questions about this process. We are happy to adjust dates if necessary. More info about Duo for Office 365 can be found here: http://www.bumc.bu.edu/it/duo-o365/, including detailed instructions on how to re-add your e-mail account on the iPhone.
