Duo for Office 365

Duo for Office 365 (O365) is now recommended for all BUMC faculty and staff, as well as required for those accessing Restricted Use or HIPAA data. Duo 2-factor authentication is the recommended method of helping to prevent unauthorized access to your email, One Drive, SharePoint, and other O365 services.

Duo for O365 only works with applications that allow for what is called Modern Authentication. You may already be using these applications. Examples are:

  • Outlook/Office 2016, 2019, and 365
  • Apple Mail for recent versions of iOS and macOS
  • Outlook app on iOS and Android
  • Microsoft Teams
  • OneDrive

Older apps and devices may not be compatible, including Office 2013 or older and the Mail app on some Android devices. See a full list of approved/incompatible applications on TechWeb: http://www.bu.edu/tech/support/duo/office365/

Some apps may require removing and re-adding your account or other changes to work correctly, click the link(s) below for steps to fix.

When an app logs you into your BU account, it will open a new page or login screen to enter your BU username and password and then a second screen to complete the Duo authentication push, text, or call.

Here is an example of what you might see on an iPhone:
