Clinical Experience

BU Neuroradiology offers one of the most unique clinical neuroradiology experiences in New England.

Boston Medical Center is the largest safety net hospital and busiest Level 1 trauma and emergency services center in New England. This brings an exceptional volume and spectrum of pathology to our department. In addition to adult and pediatric brain and spine tumor, infection, trauma, inflammatory disorders etc. fellows are exposed to an unique volume of penetrating injuries, substance abuse disorder complications, sickle cell disease, amyloidosis, and advanced head and neck cancers.

Call:

BU Radiology has an overnight division of attendings to give final reads on emergent and urgent cases with the residents. Therefore, there are no overnight call responsibilities for the fellows. Fellows work a couple of weekend day shifts during the month with the attending neuroradiology faculty with a focus on emergency neuroimaging.

Work hour flexibility:

We understand that you have lives that need flexibility, ie., the occasional dental appointment, family obligations etc. Our attendings work three workday shifts: 7am-3pm, 8am-5pm, and 2pm-9pm. Though the majority of fellow responsibilities are during normal work hours, we are happy to schedule “early” and “late shifts” for the fellows to accommodate life’s occasional obligations.

Procedures:

Our team of neuroradiologists, neurosurgeons, neurologists and interventional radiologists help train our fellows in neuroendovascular (diagnostic and therapeutic angio), as well as image-guided spine (lumbar punctures, myelograms, spine pain procedures, etc.) and head and neck procedures.

Multidisciplinary Conferences:

The fellows attend several multidisciplinary conferences to learn from and demonstrate value to our clinical colleagues. A few of these conference include CNS tumor board, Head and Neck tumor board, Neurovascular conference, Pediatric neuroradiology conference, ENT imaging conference, Neuroradiology-Ophthalmology conference, Epilepsy conference, Spine conference and Brain cutting conference.

Quality and Safety:

Fellows also participate in departmental morbidity and mortality conference as well the institutional stroke task force to fulfill the PQI requirement of the fellowship.
