Outpatient Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Experience: Clinical. Gain additional training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) at the renowned Center for Anxiety and Related Disorders (CARD) on the Charles River Campus. CARD was founded by David Barlow PhD, a world leader in CBT and anxiety disorders.   The patient population at CARD are self-referred drawing from college students, employed persons from Boston and suburbs, and people from the local community who present with an anxiety disorder ranging from simple phobias to OCD.

Location: Boston University, Charles River Campus

Requirements: Wed or Fri; 6-12 months

Danielsen Institute, Boston University

Experience: Clinical. Gain additional experience in psychotherapy and in psychopharmacology, including the role of spirituality. The Danielsen staff, including G. Stravros PhD and M. Wilson MD are leaders in the development of Spiritually Integrated Treatment. The patient populations is drawn from the area undergraduate student population, BU faculty and staff. Residents work across disciplines with pastoral counselors, clinical nurse specialists and social workers.

Community Psychiatry

Beverly Hospital

Experience: Clinical. Inpatient Psychiatry: General Hospital Location: Beverly Hospital

Requirements: 3 days (minimum) for 6 months

Experience: Clinical. Psychosomatic Medicine, General Hospital Location: Beverly Hospital

Requirements: 3 days (minimum) for 6 months

Community Psychiatry Health Centers
Experience: Clinical. Outpatient

Location: Various Community Health Centers
Faculty: J. Buczek MD and staff
Requirements: 1-2 days  for 6 months

Forensic Psychiatry

Experience: Clinical and Administrative. Be a part of the Forensic Team on one of the forensic units.
Location: Dr. Solomon Carter Mental Health Center
Faculty: M. Caicedo, MD, MPH
Requirements: 1-3 days/week for 3-12 months

Proposed electives and away electives (international or national) may be discussed with Dr. Janet Osterman, Program Director. Residents to date have had electives in low-income countries and this is available if conditions warrant this training.
