Using Research in Ethiopia to Build Capacity

To support Christina Borba’s K01 study “Epidemiological and socio-cultural landscape of schizophrenia in rural Ethiopia,” Claire Oppenheim visited their site in Butajira, Ethiopia at the Addis Ababa University (AAU).  Here she is pictured at the Mental Health Research Office with Tarikua Abera, a mental health nurse and Luwam Sahle, the research coordinator for this study.  She was primarily doing a study audit and some additional training for the research staff.

Dr Borba also recently gave a talk at Columbia University in their Global Mental Health Program that highlighted this project.  It focused on how a high income country collaborates with a low or middle income country to build research capacity.
