Virtual Reality for Pediatric Pain Relief Grant

Laura Goldstein, PhD received a grant from Childs Play to implement Virtual Reality therapy in the Pediatric Pain Clinic. The clinic treats children and young adults ages 5-22 years with various types of chronic and often debilitating chronic pain conditions.  It is staffed by an interdisciplinary team including Dr Goldstein (a psychologist), a physician, a nurse educator, a social worker, and various integrative therapists. This particular virtual reality equipment is targeted towards patients in the clinical setting and includes applications intended for pain management and self-regulation. In addition to the therapies already offered within the pain clinic, the virtual reality glasses will be used during the visits as an interactive and engaging relaxation tool to help the children learn to more effectively manage their pain.  Read about how another clinic has implemented Virtual Reality for children here.
