Samantha Truong, MD, is an academic generalist in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Boston Medical Center (BMC), an assistant professor at BU Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, and affiliate faculty for the BU Center on Forced Displacement. She cares for patients at the BMC Immigrant and Refugee Health Center’s Refugee Women’s Health Clinic and at NeighborHealth, a Federally Qualified Health Center in East Boston. Her research and clinical work in global health equity centers on dismantling inequities in sexual and reproductive health, with a focus on migrant and reproductive justice, respectful maternity care and birth equity, language justice, and abortion navigation for newcomers and forcibly displaced individuals. She leads research and asylum medicine initiatives through the BMC Refugee Women’s Health Clinic. Since her Doris Duke International Clinical Research Fellowship in 2018, she has collaborated locally and globally on research and capacity-building initiatives with Partners In Health, Compañeros En Salud in Chiapas, Mexico and with organizations at the US-Mexico Border. As a member of Physicians for Human Rights, she performs asylum evaluations for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence.
