Biography
Yi Zhen (Joan) Lee, MD, FACP, DABOM is a hospitalist at Associated Physicians of Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians at Beth Israel Deaconess Center and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Boston University Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and Obesity Medicine, with clinical and academic interests spanning inpatient care, bedside medicine, and medical education.
Dr. Lee completed her internal medicine residency at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, where she subsequently served as Chief Resident. She earned her medical degree from Perdana University Graduate School of Medicine, Malaysia, and received her Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.
Prior to her current role, Dr. Lee practiced as a general internist in Maine, where she was actively involved in patient advocacy committee. She has a strong commitment to teaching, with experience in clinical instruction, simulation-based training, and curriculum development for medical students and residents.
Her prior scholarly work includes research in cardiovascular disease, particularly transthyretin amyloidosis and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. She has contributed to multiple peer-reviewed publications and national presentations, that emphasized on importance of bedside medicine and physical examination skills.
Her current professional interests continue to center on bedside teaching and medical education, with a focus on strengthening clinical reasoning and physical examination skills among trainees. She remains committed to advancing these areas through both clinical practice and academic contributions.
Dr. Lee is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a member of several professional societies, including the Society of Hospital Medicine and the Society of Bedside Medicine.
