Biography
Dr. Sophie Claudel is a nephrology fellow and early-career investigator at Boston Medical Center and the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, where she studies the intersection of chronic kidney disease, obesity, and cardiovascular disease. She earned her MD from the Wake Forest University School of Medicine and completed a clinical research fellowship at the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Claudel came to Boston Medical Center for internal medicine residency and chief residency through the NIH R38-funded Promoting Research in Medical Residency (PRIMER) pathway, and remained for nephrology fellowship in the clinical-research track.
Dr. Claudel’s current work investigates cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic syndrome using open databases (NHANES, UK Biobank), the Kidney Precision Medicine Project, and established longitudinal cohorts (CRIC, FHS, MESA, CARDIA). Her long-term goal is to integrate clinical epidemiology with physiologic studies in human participants to uncover shared disease mechanisms and, ultimately, inform strategies for treatment and prevention.
Dr. Claudel is also a member of the CURE Consortium, a multinational research group investigating the causes of chronic kidney disease of unknown etiology (CKDu) in Central America and India. The Renal Science Core, specifically, focuses on measuring novel kidney biomarkers and assessing longitudinal kidney function trajectories.
