Biography

Kevin Maymi-Quintana, MD, earned his medical degree from Ponce Health Sciences University School of Medicine, where he graduated with Academic Honor and Clinical Distinction and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He is an assistant professor of medicine at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Boston Medical Center (BMC) and the school in 2026, and he is now an executive fellow in quality improvement and patient safety there.

Maymi-Quintana's research centers on cardiovascular risk and prevention. He is co-first author of a study in the American Journal of Preventive Cardiology on how often preventive pharmacotherapy is started after lipoprotein(a) measurement in low-risk adults. In March 2026, he presented five abstracts at the American College of Cardiology Annual Scientific Session. They examined lipoprotein(a) and its links to heart failure, atrial fibrillation, and venous thromboembolism, as well as disparities in lipoprotein(a) testing among Latino patients and real-world prescribing patterns across U.S. health systems. He also studies how glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists affect arrhythmia risk in adults with obesity, and that work was accepted at the Heart Rhythm Society 2026 Annual Scientific Sessions.

Committed to improving how care is delivered, Maymi-Quintana helped develop a pathway at BMC for starting direct oral anticoagulants in the emergency department for patients with low-risk pulmonary embolism, with the goal of reducing hospital admissions. He built the order set, coordinated medication supply with pharmacy, and educated emergency department colleagues about the initiative.

A dedicated educator, Maymi-Quintana was selected for the Medical Educator Pathway in 2024. He has served as a teaching assistant for the first-year cardiovascular module for medical students and presented morning reports on tachycardia and hypertensive emergency. He co-chaired the Internal Medicine Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee from 2024 to 2025 and is an approved bilingual (Spanish) provider at BMC.
