Biography
My research has focused on identifying lifestyle and genetic determinants as well as prevention strategies for chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and breast and ovarian cancer in diverse populations by conducting analysis of large-scale epidemiologic studies and randomized controlled trials including the African Breast Cancer Study, Nurses’ Health Study, Health Professionals Follow-up Study, Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis, Framingham Heart Study, UK Biobank, Action to Control Cardiovascular Risk in Diabetes Study, and the Vitamin D and Omega-3 Trial as well as international consortia such as the Consortium of Investigators of Modifiers of BRCA1/2 and the Fatty Acids and Outcomes Research Consortium. I am also leveraging cardiovascular imaging approaches such as echocardiography and stress PET/CFR to examine the association between subclinical cardiovascular disease and long-term clinical outcomes. I am actively involved in evidence synthesis through conducting systematic reviews and meta-analysis on chronic disease prevention and management, including for the Cochrane Library. Finally, I am involved in research that seeks to understand temporal trends and disparities in outcomes from cardiovascular disease by analyzing nationally representative surveys including from the CDC WONDER database and the National Health Interview Survey.
