Interesting EMRAP this month. Very much enjoyed the electrolyte repletion but would have enjoyed more of a “why’ discussion. The rural medicine piece on mesenteric ischemia highlighted the importance of pursuing a diagnosis when something seems amiss…and wow what a great case. Perhaps the most informative thing for me in this episode was the discussion about pupillary reactivity being non-prognostic. We use it as part of our “signs of life” in the thoracotomy algorithm. I’m going to have to learn some more about this, but it seems that we may be a bit out of date. Within the EMA world, be sure to check out Abstract 17 (self-obtained vaginal swabs), which I thought was a pretty cool paper
