Current practice
I am a partner in one of the oldest radiology groups in the country, Radiology Consultants of Iowa, founded by Dr. Arthur W. Erskine in 1912. We have busy weekday clinics and twenty-four-hour coverage for two city hospitals, where I also have plenty of subspecialty work. I am particularly proud, however, that we provide onsite service for eleven small county hospitals in Eastern Iowa. These rural areas are often underserved, and the patients appreciate both the routine and advanced care we bring to them.

Do you remember what motivated you to make your first gift to BUSM?
I have always appreciated and have been thankful for the excellent training I received at BUSM. The faculty and clinical experience were truly outstanding.

Why do you continue to give to BUSM?
I know first-hand how difficult the enormous debt can be that one can acquire during medical school. I was thrilled to get a scholarship my senior year! I would like to give back to help others in need and be part of the financial base to ease student debt.

What would you tell current students about the importance of giving back to BUSM?
There is a shortage of doctors in this country and worldwide. BUSM provides particularly excellent education and training. I would ask the current students, that when they are able, to support and help ensure this tradition of excellence and care.

Fond memory of BUSM:
The camaraderie of classmates in the lecture halls and friends in the study rooms. The baptism of gross anatomy on the first day of classes. Practicing IV access on each other. The surgery rotation at Hyannis Hospital. Making house calls during our senior year with the geriatric service.

Favorite professor or course at BUSM:
Many faculty members across all of the clinical departments were outstanding. The skills they demonstrated and the wisdom they imparted remain with me. Dr. Joseph Ferrucci, the head of Radiology, was a wonderful teacher and supporter of students and residents and had the most influence on me.
