Julie H. Sandell, PhD

Biography

Julie Sandell is Emeritus Professor of Anatomy & Neurobiology at Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine. She also served as Associate Provost for Faculty Development, Chair of the Faculty Council for Boston University, and member, ex officio, of the Board of Trustees.

Julie has been a faculty member in the Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine since 1991. She is a retinal neuroanatomist and former Vice Chair of the Department of Anatomy & Neurobiology. She has particular expertise in anatomical changes in the retina in retinitis pigmentosa in humans and animal models, including rabbits, rats, dogs and pigs. In 2001 she received the Stanley L. Robbins Award for Excellence in Teaching, the highest teaching award at the medical school.

Julie received her PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1984, and her AB from Princeton University in 1979.
