Dr. Kim’s medical career began with a BS and MD from Catholic Medical College (now Catholic University of Korea College of Medicine).
Following military service, he pursued US training with an internship at McKeesport Hospital (UPMC McKeesport), a radiology residency at Beth Israel Medical Center (NJ), and an NIH fellowship at Stanford. Dr. Kim then spent 15 years on the faculty at Harvard Medical School, where his progressive leadership and significant contributions to radiology led to his promotion to Associate Professor. Furthermore, he published extensively (110+ articles, 30+ chapters) and engaged in 37 clinical trials and holds 31 medical device patents, including a Gates Foundation-funded concept for birth control in developing countries (2015).
Building on this substantial foundation, Dr. Kim edited the comprehensive two-volume second textbook "Vascular Imaging and Intervention" (2500 pages), a vital resource for the diagnosis and treatment of vascular disorders. Driven by a passion for clinical care, education, and research, he achieved the rank of Professor in 1999 while he has continuously held the directorship of Interventional Radiology at hospitals affiliated with Harvard Medical School, UMass, and Boston University since 1984.
Dr. Kim maintains professional affiliations with RSNA and AHA, and formerly served as President of the New England Society for Cardiovascular Interventional Radiology.
