Biography
My medical career began with a BS and MD from Catholic Medical College (now Catholic University of Korea College of Medicine). Following military service, I pursued US training with an internship at McKeesport Hospital (UPMC McKeesport), a radiology residency at Beth Israel Medical Center (NJ), and an NIH fellowship at Stanford. I then spent 15 years on the faculty at Harvard Medical School, where my progressive leadership and significant contributions to radiology led to my promotion to Associate Professor. During this time, I edited the textbook Peripheral Vascular Imaging and Intervention (619 pages). Furthermore, I published extensively (110+ articles, 30+ chapters) and engaged in 37 clinical trials and holds 31 medical device patents, including a Gates Foundation-funded concept for birth control in developing countries (2015). Building on this substantial foundation, I edited the comprehensive two-volume second textbook Vascular Imaging and Intervention (2500 pages), a vital resource for the diagnosis and treatment of vascular disorders. Driven by a passion for clinical care, education, and research, I achieved the rank of Professor in 1999 while I have continuously held the directorship of Interventional Radiology at hospitals affiliated with Harvard Medical School, UMass, and Boston University since 1984. My professional affiliations include RSNA and AHA, and I served as President of the New England Society for Cardiovascular Interventional Radiology.
