Implementing New Brand Guidelines and Editorial Style

Editorial Style Update

We are now more than four months since the historic gift and naming of our School. Branding guidelines continue to evolve.

We are required to change our logos and language on digital and print materials, signage, websites, social media, stationery, email signatures and promotional items by Dec. 31, 2023.

The formal name of Boston University Aram V. Chobanian & Edward Avedisian School of Medicine is to be used for signage, formal invitations and commencement only.

The abbreviated name Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine should be used in all written communication, as well as on business cards, letterhead and email signatures. Use of BUSM or MED on second reference are no longer permitted.

Approved abbreviations, second references:

  • Chobanian & Avedisian School
  • Chobanian & Avedisian SOM

The words “Boston University” or “BU” may precede the names to clarify its affiliation.

Note: There is no preferred acronym. The initialism CAMED may ONLY be used in email addresses, URLs and social media handles, and Alumni Affiliations (CAMED’XX) to denote school and graduation year for students and alumni.

Note: the permitted use of CAMED does not extend to copy/content.

For example, BUSMDean@bu.edu has changed to CAMEDDean@bu.edu and other email addresses that previously contained ‘BUSM’ will follow. Interactive Design will be changing affected URLs. Social media accounts will need to be changed by account editors.

Note: the permitted use of CAMED does not extend to copy/content.
