Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine Affiliated Faculty Appointments and Promotions Guidelines
Affiliated Faculty Appointments at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. See separate policy for voluntary faculty.
We provide faculty appointments to MD, PhD or equivalent credentialed employees of affiliated hospitals who:
- Teach approximately 40 hours annually in the curriculum for medical or graduate students, or
- Are the primary supervisor for the school’s current doctorate student(s), or
- Are PIs of grants through the School, or for VA Faculty, VA or other federal grants.
Medical campus faculty who move to one of the school’s affiliated hospitals will become affiliated faculty if they meet the criteria above.
Criteria for appointments and promotions of Affiliated Faculty are the same as for faculty on the medical campus: Criteria.
Affiliated faculty appointments are co-terminus with their employment at the affiliated hospital.
Harvard, Tufts, Brown, UMass, or Stanford Medical School Faculty who teach the school students in approved courses and clerkships at affiliates where students rotate from both institutions receive Adjunct faculty appointments at the same rank as their current primary appointment, base on:
- A letter of request from the Department Chair stating the candidate’s name, current primary faculty rank, the vote of approval by the department faculty and a copy of their CV in their primary faculty format,
- Approval by the school’s Faculty Appointments & Promotions Committee, Executive Committee, Dean and Medical Campus Provost.
