Liza Burke Bates Appointed Assistant Dean and Registrar, MD Program

headshot of Liza Burke BatesLiza Burke Bates, MS, has been named assistant dean and registrar of the MD program, effective June 26.

Liza has served in various roles in the University Registrar’s Office for more than a decade. She served as senior assistant registrar for scheduling and training from 2012-15; associate registrar for classroom management from 2015-18; senior associate registrar for curriculum, policy and academic space from 2018-22; and most recently as consulting registrar.

She brings a deep knowledge of University systems, policies and business process, and is highly collaborative and dedicated to student-centric service.

Liza received a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from University of North Carolina at Asheville, and a master of science in neuroscience from King’s College London, Institute of Psychiatry.

“I am excited to learn that Liza Burke Bates has accepted the position of assistant dean and registrar in the School of Medicine,” said Ellen DiFiore, our recently retired assistant dean and registrar. “She will bring her extensive knowledge, energy and enthusiasm to the position. I can’t think of a better candidate for the job.”
