Celebrating Diwali

Group shot of Diwali celebrationMembers of the BUMC community gathered Friday, Oct. 28, in Hiebert Lounge to celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Lights, one of the most important holidays observed in the Hindu, Sikh and Jain traditions. The event was organized by the Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine South Asian Medical Students Association (SAMSA), which is led by Anvitha Sathya, Jeet Kothari, Sanil Gandhi and Rohith Kariveda.

The evening event was filled with cultural arts and crafts, food, music and dancing. Hiebert Lounge was decorated with deepa (lamps) and rangoli (arrangements of colored powder). This year the event included three dance performances, a semi classical fusion piece by Prasida Unni, Yamini Adusumelli, Saaz Mantri, Laxmi Behara and Tina Bastin, a solo piece by Himani Sood and a Bollywood piece by Geethika Bodanapu, Anika Walia and Kiran Maypole. In addition, a stand up comedy act was performed by Jeet Kothari.
