Re: Deadline Extended: Academy of Medical Educators (AMEs)

The BUSM Medical Education and Student Affairs offices are seeking the second cohort of clinical faculty to join BUSM’s Academy of Medical Educators (AMEs) who will serve as the core advisor for students for the entirety of the students’ time in medical school, core faculty in the Doctoring courses and a longitudinal clinical assessor for a cohort of students across the four years of the curriculum.

The commitment is one afternoon per week throughout the academic year. AMEs will teach communication, physical exam and clinical reasoning skills to students in the Doctoring courses. The course design is primarily case-based small groups (eight students) with role play, standardized patients and skills training. AME’s will also be assigned a cohort of eight clerkship students who they will directly observe during patient care to assess and provide feedback on their clinical skills. AME’s will serve as the core advisor in the BUSM advisor network for 16 students over the four years of the BUSM curriculum. The advising role includes both scheduled and unscheduled meetings with students. Required faculty development and team meetings will occur throughout the year.

This role will require teaching and assessing the full scope of practice students need to enter and succeed during the clinical phase of the curriculum. Academy Educators will be hired starting July 1, 2020, at the rate of $19,230 plus fringe for 47 half days/year. Ideal applicants are MD or equivalent faculty who are passionate about clinical medicine, teaching and mentoring students and supporting their professional development. Applicants should have experience with small group facilitation, mentoring and assessment.
