Shruthi Mahalingaiah Named VP of New England Fertility Society

Shruthi Mahalingaiah, MD, MS, assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology, has been appointed vice president of the New England Fertility Society for 2019. An obstetrician/gynecologist at Boston Medical Center, Dr. Mahalingaiah specializes in reproductive endocrinology and infertility.

Dr. Mahalingaiah was a recipient of the Reproductive Scientist Training Program (RSDP K12), and previously was a Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women’s Health Scholar, looking at environmental exposures and risk of gynecologic disease incidence. Her current research focuses on environmental exposures, infertility and ovulation disorders such as polycystic ovary syndrome.

Earlier this year she was noted for her study in the journal Human Reproduction that found air pollution is tied to irregular menstrual cycles in teens. This study was the first to show that exposure to air pollution among teen girls (ages 14-18) is associated with slightly increased chances of menstrual irregularity and longer time to achieve regularity in the teen years.

Dr. Mahalingaiah received her MD from Harvard and master’s of science (MS) in epidemiology from BU School of Public Health.

The New England Fertility Society (NEFS), represents a diverse group of medical doctors, researchers, embryologists, nurses, attorneys, industry liaisons and others in the field of reproductive medicine who meet quarterly to share ideas, network, and stay abreast of pertinent topics in their field. Dr. Mahalingaiah will assist in identifying speakers at the cross-roads of science, policy and reproduction for the NEFS 2019 meetings.
