Silverstein Appointed to US Preventive Services Task Force
Michael Silverstein, MD, MPH, associate professor of pediatrics at BUSM, has been appointed to the US
Preventive Services Task Force (Task Force) as one of its newest members.
“We are proud to congratulate Dr. Silverstein on this prestigious new appointment,” said Robert Vinci, MD, chairman and the Joel and Barbara Alpert professor of pediatrics at BUSM. “We are confident that his experience in pediatrics and evidence-based medicine, combined with his commitment to working with low-income populations and underserved children, will be a valuable asset to the work of the Task Force.”
The Task Force is an independent, volunteer panel of national experts in prevention and evidence-based medicine. Members come from many health-related fields, including internal medicine, family medicine, pediatrics, behavioral health, obstetrics/gynecology, and nursing. Members are appointed to serve a four-year term by the director of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, a part of the US Department of Health and Human Services, with guidance from Task Force leadership.
“On behalf of my fellow Task Force members, I am happy to welcome Dr. Silverstein to the Task Force,” said Task Force chair Kirsten Bibbins-Domingo, PhD, MD, MAS “His clinical and research expertise in pediatrics and prevention, as well as his commitment to vulnerable populations, will bring an important perspective as we work together to fulfill the Task Force’s mission.”
Silverstein is the director of the Division of General Academic Pediatrics, and vice chair of research for the department of pediatrics at BUSM. He is also a staff pediatrician at Boston Medical Center, New England’s largest safety net hospital. Silverstein’s research focuses on mental health services for children and families. His primary interest is the prevention of depression in at-risk mothers and mothers of vulnerable children.
