Susan Norris Named Distinguished Staff of the Month for May

The Dean’s Office is pleased to announce that Susan Norris has been named Distinguished Staff of the Month for May.

Susan Norris is senior policy officer in the Student Affairs Office. She joined the BUSM community in 1992. Among her responsibilities, she oversees the fourth-year medical students’ residency application process, and manages the complexities of BUSM’s promotions committee, the Student Evaluation and Promotion Committee.

Her nominators say, “Susan’s attention to detail, reliability and organization are superb. But most importantly, she is always focused on the student well-being, making sure they are prepared and at ease in face of a very stressful time.

“Susan keeps each student abreast of every step of the residency application process, writing clear and detailed emails to the classes to ensure that they do not miss any deadlines; she also organizes regular class meetings to the same end. She ensures that each student has a specific dean assignment in Student Affairs and she collects and maintains a “biosketech” and CV for each student.

“Susan drafts the MSPE (aka Dean’s Letters) for each student – this is a monumental task. She updates each letter as grades and clerkship evaluations roll in and students want to update their activities. She also works tirelessly with stressed deans to make sure that each letter is completed on time, and coordinates students review of their letters. She helps organize and run workshops for personal statements, interviewing skills and many other essential tasks. She does all of this and more without complaint.”

“Susan is one of the most hardworking, understanding, and kind advocates for the medical students.”

Congratulations!
