More than 100 faculty, staff, residents and students attended the 13th Annual John McCahan Medical Education Day held May 30 on the BU Medical Campus, an interactive event that aims to showcase the wide variety of educational innovations and research activities taking place on campus.

Named after John McCahan, MD, former associate dean for Academic Affairs (1976–2006) and acting dean (2003–2005), the daylong event included five workshops, a poster session and a Dean’s Panel, which discussed “Teaching Millennials.”

The keynote address focused on the theme of “Leadership Refined” and was given by Dr. Hope Ricciotti, Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and Associate Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Biology at Harvard Medical School (HMS). Dr. Ricciotti also serves as Co-Chair of the Resident as Teacher Interest Group for the Harvard Medical School Academy, the OBGYN Clerkship Committee Chair, and as a member of the Harvard Medical School Curriculum Committee. Her academic interests include resident-as-teacher and leadership curriculum development and training, and culture change in academic medicine.
