Dr. Noyan Gokce Awarded NIH Research Grant
Congratulations to Dr. Noyan Gokce and co-PI J. Schlezinger for earning this grant, which was awarded for their proposal to investigate environmental pollutants detrimental to the cardiovascular system.
Read on for Dr. Gokce’s summary of the project:
Environmental pollutants that have contaminated our food supplies and consumer products, some termed “forever chemicals”, can bio-accumulate in human adipose tissues and potentially negatively impact our whole body health including the cardiovascular system. This proposal will employ complementary approaches that utilize single molecule fluorescence in situ hybridization(smFISH) cellular imaging, physiological studies of human vascular function and angiogenesis, and atherosclerosis-prone mouse models to investigate mechanisms by which environmental toxicants disrupt vascular and adipocyte biology and play causal roles in mediating cardiovascular diseases.
