Francis Williams of Boston City Hospital

“America’s First Radiologist”

Dr Francis Williams of the Boston City Hospital has been credited as being  the first Radiologist in America

  • 8th November 1895
    • Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen discovers X-rays
  • February 1896
    • Williams brings a patient to MIT physics lab for clinical X-ray studies
  • March 1896
    • Williams is the first person to present a clinical example of X-Rays at a medical meeting in the USA
  • May 1896
    • Williams creates the first X-ray facility in Boston in the basement of the library at Boston City Hospital.  This facility served medical facilities of Boston University, Tufts and Harvard.
  • 1901
    • Williams publishes the first textbook of roentgenology in the United States
