New Grant to Support Hepatitis C Testing in the Emergency Department

We are proud to announce that Dr. Elissa Schechter-Perkins, Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine, will be the lead emergency physician implementing a new, cutting-edge program that will provide Hepatitis C testing in the Emergency Department!

Funded largely by a grant from Gilead Sciences, this pilot program is a coordinated effort by the Emergency Department, section of Infectious Disease, and section of Laboratory Medicine at Boston Medical Center. The program provides for patient navigators who will help emergency physicians inform patients of their test results and ensure that patients are linked to timely outpatient hepatitis care. Implementation of the program is planned for this summer.
