Mina Yaar, MD is Professor of Dermatology and interim Chair of the Department of Dermatology. She received her medical degree from Hadassah Medical School, Jerusalem, Israel. She completed her Internship in Jerusalem and her Dermatology Residency in the combined Boston University-Tufts University Program. She is Board Certified in Dermatology. An active researcher on aging and melanogenesis (skin pigmentation and tanning), Dr. Yaar held a distinguished National Institute of Health Fellowship in Dermatologic Research. She is interested in evaluating patients with a wide range of dermatologic problems.

Jag Bhawan, MD is the Vice-Chairman of Administration and Financial Affairs, Head of the Dermatopathology Section and Professor of Dermatology and Pathology. Dr. Bhawan graduated from Maulana Azad Medical College in New Delhi, India, and trained in pathology at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences and in the combined Boston University-Tufts University Dermatology Program. He is Board Certified in Dermatology, Pathology and Dermatopathology. His primary interests include general dermatology and the disorders of pigmentation.
Vladimir Botchkarev, MD, PhD is Research Associate Professor in the Department of Dermatology. He received his medical training at Chuvash State University in Cheboksary, Russian and his doctoral training at People’s Friendship University in Moscow, Russia. He was a recipient of the Research Career Development Award from the Dermatology Foundation and Independent Scientist Award from the National Institutes of Health. He is also a recipient of the research grants from the NIAMS and NCI. His name was included in the books 2000 Outstanding Scientists of the 21st Century, Great Minds of the 21st Century and Who is Who in Medicine. His primary research interests are the molecular mechanisms of hair growth and pathobiology of different forms of hair loss.
John Croke, MD graduated from Tufts University School of Medicine. He completed a Dermatology Residency at Brooke Army Medical Center Hospital. He is Board Certified in Dermatology. He is an Instructor of Dermatology at Boston University Medical Center and is Chief of Dermatology at Brockton Hospital.
Marie-France Demierre, MD is a Professor of Dermatology and Medicine at Boston University Medical Center and Director of the Skin Oncology and Photopheresis Programs. She graduated from McGill University Medical School. She completed a Dermatology Residency at McGill University Hospital and a Fellowship in Skin Oncology at Boston University Medical Center. She is Board Certified in Dermatology. She is fluent in French and Italian. Her clinical interests include skin oncology, malignant melanoma, cutaneous lymphoma and photophoresis. She received in 2009 the Women’s Dermatologic Society’s Presidential Award and was named by the Boston Red Sox as their “Medical All-Star”.
Amit Garg, MD joined the department in 2008 in the capacity of Director of the Training Program. Dr. Garg received his medical degree from the University of Massachusetts, and he completed his residency in Dermatology at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He is Board Certified in Dermatology. Prior to his appointment at Boston University, Dr. Garg held his academic appointment at the University of Massachusetts, where he served as Director of the Undergraduate Teaching Program in Dermatology, Ambulatory Medical Director, and Director of the Rheumatic Skin Disease clinic. While at UMass, he developed a comprehensive web based curriculum for undergraduates, for which he was also awarded the Department of Medicine Excellence in Teaching Award. Dr. Garg has clinical interests in medical dermatology, and specifically psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, cutaneous lupus, and dermatomyositis. His research interests encompass undergraduate and graduate medical education. Dr. Garg has served on editorial boards for the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology as well as other AAD based publications. He has several invited lectures and publications to his credit.
Alan Geller, RN, MPH is Research Associate Professor in the Department of Dermatology at the School of Medicine and the Department of Epidemiology at the School of Public Health. He received his MPH from Boston University School of Public Health. His research interests are in the prevention and early detection of skin cancer, the role of social inequities in cancer, community education, and medical student education.
Barbara Gilchrest, MD is Professor and Chair-Emeritus of the Department of Dermatology at Boston University School of Medicine and Boston Medical Center (BMC). Dr. Gilchrest received her medical degree from Harvard Medical School and completed Residencies in Internal Medicine and Dermatology at Harvard-affiliated hospitals. She is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Dermatology. Prior to her appointment as Chair of the Department of Dermatology, Dr. Gilchrest held academic appointments at Harvard Medical School and Tufts University School of Medicine. Dr. Gilchrest has clinical and laboratory-based research interests in skin aging and pigmentation and has published extensively based on her pioneering work in these fields. She is cited in the book, 100 Best Doctors in America, and is a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academics of Science.
Lynne Goldberg, MD is an Associate Professor of Dermatology and Pathology. She is an Alpha Omega Alpha graduate from Downstate Medical Center in New York. She completed a Residency in Internal Medicine at New York University Medical Center prior to her Dermatology Residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Goldberg subsequently completed a Fellowship in Dermatopathology at Boston University. Dr. Goldberg is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Dermatology and Dermatopathology and has a special interest in hair disorders.
Howard Koh, MD, MPH is currently the Massachusetts Commissioner of Public Health and Professor at Boston University Schools of Medicine and Public Health. Dr. Koh is a graduate of Yale College and Yale Medical School and completed his Residency and Fellowships at Boston City Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital. He is quadruple Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology, Medical Oncology and Dermatology. Dr. Koh specializes in skin oncology. His expertise lies in management, early detection and prevention of skin cancer, especially melanoma and cutaneous T-cell Lymphoma.
Nellie Konnikov, MD is Clinical Professor of Dermatology at Boston University School of Medicine and Chief of Dermatology at Boston VA Medical Center. She graduated from Moscow Medical School. Dr. Konnikov received her dermatology training in Moscow and completed her dermatology residency at the Boston University-Tufts University Residency Training Program. Dr. Konnikov is Board Certified in Dermatology. Her clinical and research interests include a wide range of dermatological problems, skin cancer and non-surgical cosmetic dermatology.
Niels Krejci, MD is the Director of Cosmetic and Laser Surgery. Dr. Krejci received his MD degree from the University of Munich. He subsequently trained at the University of California at San Diego (General Surgery), Boston University and Tufts University (Dermatology and Mohs Micrographic Surgery), with research fellowships at Yale University (Plastic Surgery) and Stanford University (Dermatology). Before joining Boston University, Dr. Krejci was Director of Cutaneous Cosmetic Surgery at New England Medical Center.

Amal K. Kurban, MD is Professor of Dermatology at Boston University School of Medicine. He is the former Chairman of the Dermatology Department at the American University of Beirut. He graduated from the American University of Beirut Medical School where he also completed his Medicine and Dermatology Residencies. He has had extensive training in Dermatology in the Middle East and Europe. Dr. Kurban is also a graduate of the Johns Hopkins Dermatology Program. He is Board Certified in Dermatology. He joined the Boston University Department of Dermatology in 1985. His primary interest is clinical dermatology.

Meera Mahalingam, MBBS, PhD, FRCPath received her medical degree in India (MBBS) and trained in pathology initially in the UK and subsequently in the USA. She obtained a PhD from the University of London while doing her residency in pathology at King’s College Hospital, London and is a board certified pathologist both in the UK (Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists) and in the USA. After her residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology she completed a two-year Fellowship in Dermato-pathology in 2000 at Boston Medical Center, Boston MA. She joined Quest Diagnostics Incorporated, Cambridge (2000-2005) during which time she also served as Consultant dermatopathologist for Quest Diagnostics Inc, CT and PA. She joined UMASS Medical Center in 2005 as Associate Professor of Pathology and Medicine and Director of Dermatopathology. She is Director of Quality Assurance and Laboratory Proficiency for the American Society of Dermatopathology (2002-2007) and has several publications and oral presentations and invited lectures to her credit. She serves on the editorial board of Journal of Cutaneous Pathology.
Claire Mansur, MD is the Medical Director of the Boston University Center for Cosmetic and Laser Surgery, practicing both general dermatology and cosmetic and laser surgery. Dr. Mansur received her medical degree from the University of Minnesota. She subsequently trained at the University of Massachusetts (internal medicine), University of North Carolina (Dermatology), and did research fellowships with Dr. Barbara Gilchrest at Tufts University and Dr. Sheldon Earp at University of North Carolina. She is boarded in Internal Medicine and Dermatology. She subsequently joined the faculty at Tufts New England Medical Center where she practiced general dermatology and did research in the molecular biology of human papillomavirus. She is also the author of several scientific papers and book chapters. From 2002-2005 she served as the interim chair of the Department of Dermatology at New England Medical Center. .
Hee-Young Park, PhD is Associate Research Professor in the Department of Dermatology. She received her BS and PhD in Biology from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She received numerous awards, including awards from the Dermatology Foundation, Charlotte Gayer Foundation, National Vitiligo Foundation Research Award, the Best Paper of the Year Award from the Journal of Dermatologic Science, and the 1998 Wound Care Award. She has been an NIH-funded investigator. Her research interest centers on elucidating molecular mechanisms regulating pigmentation, hair growth and wound healing. Dr. Park is a member of Admissions Committee for the Boston University School of Medicine and serves as the Faculty Advisor for the Masters of Arts in Graduate Medical Sciences.
Tania Phillips, MD

Thomas Ruenger, MD received his MD PhD from Christian-Albrecht University in Kiel, Germany. After a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Institute of Health in the Laboratory of Molecular Carcinogenesis, he completed a dermatology residency training at the University of Würzburg, Germany, with board certification in dermatology and allergology. He was Professor and Vice-Chairman of the Department of Dermatology at Georg August University, Göttingen, Germany, and now is Professor and Vice-Chairman for Clinical and Academic Affairs of the Department of Dermatology at Boston University.
While practicing general medical dermatology, including pediatric dermatology, his main clinical interests are in photodermatology, in particular phototherapy and skin diseases with photosensitivity, and skin oncology. He serves as the clinical director of outpatient clinical services and the director of the International Graduate Training Program in Dermatology.
In the research laboratory, he is interested in photobiology of skin cells, including UV-induced DNA damage, DNA repair, and other cellular DNA damage responses. He is the recipient of several academic, scientific, and teaching awards. He is fluent in German and Spanish.
Andrey Sharov, MD, PhD
Emily P. Tierney, MD is an Assistant Professor of Dermatology at Boston University and it the Assistant Director of Surgical Training at Boston University School of Medicine. Dr. Tierney received her medical degree at Stanford University, and trained at Tufts University (Internal Medicine) and Henry Ford Health System (Dermatology). She subsequently performed a fellowship certified by the American College of Mohs Surgery and the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Procedural Dermatology under the direction of Dr. C. William Hanke at the Laser and Skin Surgery Center of Indiana. Dr. Tierney is Board Certified in Dermatology. Dr. Tierney has clinical interests in Mohs micrographic surgery, photodynamic therapy, laser surgery and cosmetic dermatology. Her research interests include the dermatologic workforce, fractionated laser resurfacing, photodynamic therapy for treatment of non-melanoma skin cancer, laser treatment of vascular and pigmented lesions as well as scarring and follicular disorders, and novel treatments in cosmetic dermatology. She is the recipient of research grants from the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery and the Cosmetic Surgery Foundation and is currently on the editorial board of the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology. Dr. Tierney is the author of over forty scientific publications and book chapters.
