Fond memory of BUSM: Medical School was filled with a lot of great memories. One of the fondest memories I have of BUSM is graduation. It’s not that I was excited to leave Boston University, but graduation is just a one of those magical experiences you remember for the rest of your life.
I participated in the Early Medical School Selection Program (EMSSP) which is a pathway program that recruits promising students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) to BUSM. Early on I was connected with a cohort of students, also from HBCUs, and we truly created a family. On graduation day, I crossed the stage with my EMSSP family-folks with whom I’ve cried and celebrated during my time at BUSM. Graduation was a moment I was proud we were all able to share together.
Most recent accomplishment: Recently, I was invited to participate on a panel discussion regarding “Microaggressions: Hidden Messages that Hurt” sponsored by the BUSM alumni association. As a young alumnus, I was honored to be invited to discuss a topic that has relevance to my life and humbled that the alumni association would be interested in hearing my experience. The panel turned out to be a great experience and served as an open forum to the BUSM and BMC community. Having the opportunity to be a part of the dialogue, share my experiences, and learn from others turned out to be very impactful and opened my eyes to some of my own unconscious biases. I look forward to the future discussions sponsored by the Alumni Association.
Hobbies outside of work: When I’m not busy writing progress notes, I enjoy cooking, playing golf and watching LeBron James play basketball.
