Goals
Our goal is to make the Department of Psychiatry a place that people want to join, to stay, to grow, and to enrich the lives of others. We want all members of the Department of Psychiatry to feel included and valued, whatever their role.
DEI Committee Goals (2025-2027)
To create a sense of community and belonging to effectively build an inclusive community:
- Creating an internal DEI directory with shared professional and personal interests allowing people to connect. (2025)
- Create shared spaces to engage with current events related to social justice. (2025-2027)
- Create more forums for dialogue between leadership and employees. (2025-2027)

- Create safe/brave spaces to discuss DEI matters, where one is seen/heard/valued–Brown Bag lunches
- Intranet where all are mentioned and accessible
Need for a more diverse department
- Policies & Procedures- hiring, retaining, promotions
- Conduct exit interviews-assess reasons for leaving
Need for Education and Self-reflection
- Education & Training on topics of DEI- Grand Rounds and more
- Recent Events discussion (healings circles)
- Dissemination of training across departments, within and outside institution
Wish for Transparency
- Inclusivity and information sharing to the extent possible
- Department Town Hall meetings with updates
Collaboration
- Implement a Mentorship Model-(formal or informal) for people (newly hired/ with shared goals/ with shared identities)
