Speaker:

Yaminette Diaz-Linhart, MSW, MPH
Doctoral Candidate and Health Policy Research Scholar with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation

The current behavioral health workforce is not adequate to meet the demand for services. Given the Covid-19 pandemic, attention to the behavioral health workforce is imperative to meet the rising behavioral health needs of individuals and communities. Community health workers (CHWs) play a vital role in behavioral health prevention, including working directly with individuals and families to engage, identify and advocate for behavioral health needs. This session will highlight the current status of employing CHWs to understand barriers and facilitators to integrating CHWs in the behavioral health workforce. A summary of current policy implications for Massachusetts will be discussed.

Learning Objectives:
    1. Describe the current status of employing community health workers in behavioral health
    2. Identify barriers and facilitators for integrating community health workers in behavioral health
    3. Discuss policy implementations for expanding the behavioral health workforce
