GSI Research Symposium 2021 Recap

We thank everyone who attended and participated in the 13th Annual GSI Research Symposium held virtually on November 18, 2021.

There were 112 registrations and an average 58 concurrent viewers this year over the span of the online symposium.  It began with a special tribute to remember our late colleague, Kimberlin Humphrey-Kiger, who passed away on October 24, 2021.

The morning session began with 10 superb lightning talks by graduate students, and then the afternoon session of lightning talks was rounded out with undergraduate, graduate, postdocs and staff presenting their genomics research from various basic research departments and graduate programs.

In between the lightning talks, we had Dean Dr. Karen Antman speak her special remarks, Charlie Jahnke from Research Computing Services highlighted BU’s computational infrastructure supporting genomics, and we had a fantastic set of invited talks from GSI-supported COVID19 research projects and some new BU faculty working in the genetics and genomics fields.

Thanks to Illumina, the GSI and MSR held an RNA-seq award contest, and the winners are:

Adeline Matschulat (Varelas lab, Biochemistry), Allison Tipton (Russek lab, Pharm & Exp. Ther), Megan Snyder (Sherr lab, Environ. Health), Anna Berenson (Fuxman Bass lab, Biology CRC),  Jacob Beierle (Bryant lab, Pharm & Exp. Ther),  and  Dmitry Ketrov (Cifuentes lab, Biochemistry).

Thank you to all who participated and attended our event!
