Digital Pathology Core
The Digital Pathology Core is an institutional core housed within the BUMC Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center. Its mission is to provide high-quality digital pathology services to members of the Boston Medical Center (BMC) and BU research community to support innovative and impactful science.
Services
The primary service of the Digital Pathology Core is to facilitate high-throughput digitization of histologic glass slides to generate digital Whole Slide Images (WSIs) for downstream computer-assisted analyses. This includes any type of chromogenic histologic image for all tissue sources. All tissue must be cover slipped. Barcode labels are provided by the core. Scanning is performed on a Leica GT450 digital slide scanner at 20x or 40x magnification, producing .svs files. WSIs are uploaded to a local BU server and can be transferred to other servers or uploaded to a portable hard drive. The core has 2 GT450 scanners, which can accommodate up to 900 slides at one time, with a scan speed of approximately 80 slides per hour.
