Biography

Susan Warren, M.D. is a psychiatrist and educator. Since 2018, she has been teaching Art, Observation and Medicine, a collaboration between Boston University’s School of Visual Arts and School of Medicine, to medical students during the Psychiatry clerkship.
Dr. Warren received her BA in Art cum laude from Yale University and her M.D. from Columbia University. She completed her residency in Adult Psychiatry at the University of Michigan and fellowship at the National Center for PTSD Women’s Sciences Division at the VA Boston Healthcare System. She has worked in private practice and clinics for women’s mental health. She served as Medical Director of the Partial Hospital for Eating Disorders at the University of Michigan. She completed the Leadership in Global Mental Health Program directed by Dr. Vikram Patel in Goa, India. She received funding from the Ella Lyman Cabot Trust to introduce women’s mental health services at a hospital in rural Nepal.
Dr. Warren has been a facilitator in Literature and Medicine of the Massachusetts Humanities Council at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Boston. She was an invited critic in Behavior and Design at Rhode Island School of Design. She worked at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Public Education prior to entering medical school.
Dr. Warren has held appointments at the medical schools of University of Michigan, Harvard and University of Massachusetts and joined the faculty at Boston University in 2023. Her current interest is humanities in medical education.
