Biography

Dr. Katherine Kelton (she/her/ella) is a staff psychologist in the Brockton PTSD clinic at the VA Boston Healthcare System. Dr. Kelton has expertise in utilizing evidence-based practices and measurement-based care to treat people with complex clinical presentations, with specialization in trauma-related and substance use disorders.

Dr. Kelton also strives to cultivate a broader lens for promoting high-quality, interdisciplinary science driven by cultural humility. This value is reflected in her research, which encompasses how socio-structural, systemic inequities impact mental health. These topics have spanned incarceration, homelessness, sex work, trauma, and substance use. Although primarily serving in a clinical capacity, Dr. Kelton continues an active research program.

Dr. Kelton began her academic journey at Central New Mexico Community College where she received her Associate of Arts in teacher education. Dr. Kelton received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of New Mexico with a double major in psychology and English. Dr. Kelton received her Masters of Science in Public Health and her PhD in Clinical Psychology with a Secondary Concentration in Quantitative Methods from St. Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri. She completed her clinical internship at the Durham VA Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina and two-year research post-doctoral fellowship at the National Center on Homelessness among Veterans in San Antonio, Texas. Overall, Dr. Kelton aims to leverage her role as a psychologist to extend space and divert power to people with marginalized identities and to systematically silenced communities.
