Professor Emeritus, Anatomy & Neurobiology

Julie Sandell

Julie Sandell is Emeritus Professor of Anatomy & Neurobiology at Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine. She also served as Associate Provost for Faculty Development, Chair of the Faculty Council for Boston University, and member, ex officio, of the Board of Trustees.

Julie has been a faculty member in the Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine since 1991. She is a retinal neuroanatomist and former Vice Chair of the Department of Anatomy & Neurobiology. She has particular expertise in anatomical changes in the retina in retinitis pigmentosa in humans and animal models, including rabbits, rats, dogs and pigs. In 2001 she received the Stanley L. Robbins Award for Excellence in Teaching, the highest teaching award at the medical school.
