Biography
Julia Aquino, MD has been Director of Medical Student Education and Pediatric Clerkship Director at the Boston University Chobanian and Avedesian School of Medicine since April 1, 2023. She joined BMC/CAMed after working in the hospital medicine programs at both Tufts Medical Center and Boston Children’s Hospital. During her tenure at Tufts Medical Center, Dr. Aquino was the Co-Director of the pediatric clerkship and an Associate Program Director of the pediatric residency program and was the recipient of the Distinguished Educator Award from the pediatric residents. While at Boston Children’s, she was the Director of Network Hospitalist Medicine Education. Nationally, Dr. Aquino is the Associate Chair of the Curriculum Committee for the Academic Pediatric Association’s Educational Scholars Program and a frequent reviewer for MedEd Portal.
Dr. Aquino is an accomplished educator both locally and nationally and has completed certificate programs in medical teaching and simulation. At CAMed, she is an Academy Medical Educator and recipient of the numerous teaching awards from both medical students and pediatric residents from the Boston Combined Residency Program. Her research interests include curriculum development and evaluation, particularly around physician-patient communication, and assessment in undergraduate medical education. Her clinical focus is pediatric hospital medicine and newborn medicine. She is a member of the Academic Pediatric Association (APA) and the Committee on Medical Student Education in Pediatrics (COMSEP). Dr. Aquino holds a faculty appointment at Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine (CAMed). She earned a bachelor’s degree in History and Science from Harvard University and her medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine. She completed her residency in pediatrics at Johns Hopkins and is board certified in Pediatric Hospital Medicine.
