Biography

Jillian C. Shipherd, Ph.D. (she/her): Dr. Shipherd is the Deputy Director of the LGBTQ+ Health program at the Veterans Health Administration in Washington D.C. Additionally, she is a Professor of Psychiatry at Boston University’s Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine and an Affiliate Psychologist at the Women’s Health Sciences Division of the National Center for PTSD at VA Boston Healthcare System. Dr. Shipherd is an international expert in trauma recovery and in LGBTQ+ health policy, education, and research. She has successfully directed over $4 million in grant funding and is the author of over 130 peer-reviewed publications and dozens of book chapters, has served on the editorial board of LGBT Health and other journals, as well as co-editor of the book Adult Transgender Care: An Interdisciplinary Approach for Training Mental Health Professionals. Dr. Shipherd has received 9 major awards for distinguished contributions in LGBTQ+ health from leading organizations including the American Psychological Foundation Gold Medal Award for Impact.
