Biography
Dr. Lee is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Medical Sciences and Education and the Grant Strategist in the Proposal Development Office at the Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine. She received a BS in Bioengineering from Rice University and earned her PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University. She also was an American Heart Association Predoctoral Fellow and a Ruth L. Kirschstein NRSA Postdoctoral Research Fellow. Her research focused on cardiovascular biomaterials and tissue engineering.
Dr. Lee has over two decades of experience in writing and editing scientific texts for a wide variety of audiences. As an undergraduate, she was the technical editor for the introductory-level textbook Bioengineering Fundamentals (Prentice Hall 2006) and worked in the Scientific Publications Department at the Texas Heart Institute editing clinical manuscripts. She has also helped numerous faculty develop their proposals, as well as helped a few organizations secure SBIR funding.
Dr. Lee's role in the Proposal Development Office is to guide new faculty and faculty with English-language difficulties in developing and writing their first grant submissions, as well as to aid established faculty in developing and writing institutional training grants and large center grants. Dr. Lee helps investigators learn to distill high-level scientific research into clear and concise concepts for audiences with diverse backgrounds. In today’s uncertain funding environment, there is no room for permitting people untrained in scientific rigor to misconstrue the true importance and potential contributions of the research community at the Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine. Since joining the Proposal Development Office in 2017, she has helped faculty obtain over $92 million in total funds requested.
