Biography
Dr. Divya Anjana Shankar is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine and a pulmonary and critical care physician at Boston Medical Center. She earned her Medical Doctorate (MD) through Boston University’s Seven-Year Liberal Arts/Medical Education Program. Dr. Shankar completed her Internal Medicine residency and Pulmonary/Critical Care fellowship at Boston Medical Center, where she also served as a T32/F32 Research Fellow and is currently an Evans Center for Implementation and Improvement Sciences Fellow.
Dr. Shankar’s clinical expertise focuses on pulmonary diseases, critical care, and interstitial lung diseases, with a research emphasis on health disparities, implementation science, and treatment outcomes for conditions like idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Her work, supported by NIH and American Lung Association grants, has been published in high-impact journals such as Annals of the American Thoracic Society and BMC Public Health. She has presented extensively at national conferences, including the American Thoracic Society, earning Abstract Scholarships in 2022 and 2023. Her research on antifibrotic uptake disparities and smoking cessation interventions underscores her commitment to health equity.
A dedicated educator, Dr. Shankar co-directs the Pulmonary Core Curriculum, teaches medical students and residents, and mentors trainees, with mentees presenting at major conferences. She serves on the Medical School Admissions Committee and is an active member of the American Thoracic Society and American College of Chest Physicians, contributing to web and program committees.
