Biography

Devin W. Steenkamp is Associate Professor of Medicine in the Section of Endocrinology, Diabetes, Nutrition and Weight Management at Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine, Boston, MA. Dr. Steenkamp is an adult endocrinologist with a particular interest in type 1 diabetes, atypical diabetes phenotypes and diabetes technology. He is the Director of the Clinical Diabetes Program in the Section of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Nutrition at Boston Medical Center/Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine. He established the diabetes technology program, with a particular focus on utilizing modern technologies to improve the care and outcomes for underserved adults living with diabetes.

As an educator and mentor, Dr. Steenkamp has been recognized by the Department of Medicine and endocrinology fellows in training for faculty excellence in mentoring. In his clinical leadership role, he is responsible for leading a team of multidisciplinary clinicians with specific expertise in implementing advanced diabetes technologies into care and has overseen the development of various innovative clinical programs.

Dr. Steenkamp has also been a leader integral to the advancement of the diabetes clinical research program and has been an investigator on multiple multi-center clinical trials and translational projects, sponsored by various foundations, including Breakthrough T1D, the Helmsley Charitable Trust and industry sponsors. He is currently a co-investigator on two NIH-funded R01 clinical studies investigating diabetes technology in novel populations and is the editor of the 7th edition of “Intensive Diabetes Management,” a textbook focused on advanced approaches to the treatment of patients living with diabetes, published by the American Diabetes Association.
