Biography

Dr. Edwards is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine (BUSM) at Boston University and Boston Medical Center (BMC). She maintains a clinical practice in hematology at Boston Medical Center (BMC) with a specific research interest in plasma cell disorders (PCDs). She is committed to improving the care of vulnerable patient populations using her translational research platform to address unanswered questions encountered in clinical care. After internal medicine residency at Harlem Hospital Center, she completed the hematology and oncology fellowship at BUSM/BMC, obtaining rigorous research training through the comprehensive cancer center, the world-renowned BU Amyloidosis Center, and the Center for Regenerative Medicine.

As a physician-scientist and hematologist, her research and clinical platforms are multifaceted. Her translational research focuses on integrating clinical data from large databases with the knowledge gained from PCD modeling using patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cells to understand disease biology in a socioenvironmental context, study the earliest signs of disease, test treatments, and develop the most promising therapeutic agents. Her work has led to several prestigious awards from the American Society of Hematology, the International Society of Amyloidosis, and the International Myeloma Foundation. In her clinical capacity, she provides care for patients with hematologic diseases and advocates for underserved populations through community-based patient and peer education programs.

Dr. Edwards also has a strong passion for teaching and mentorship. She is an active Hematology and Oncology Fellowship Program Evaluation Committee member and a career mentor for several clinical trainees.
