Sun Lee, MD, MSc, assistant professor of medicine, has received an American Association of Clinical Endocrinology (AACE) Rising Star in Endocrinology Award.

The honor is presented to a physician who is within 10 years of completing their endocrine fellowship and has demonstrated actionable outcomes in outstanding leadership, teamwork and/or innovation in support of AACE’s mission to elevate clinical endocrinology for global health through contributions to patient care, scientific endeavor and/or education.

Lee has extensive clinical and research experience, with a focus on thyroid disorders and iodine nutrition, especially in pregnancy. In 2019, she received an NIH K23 grant to study effects of maternal thyroid function and thyroidal disruptor exposure on pregnancy and child developmental outcomes. Her research has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals and she has presented her work at national and international conferences.

A board-certified endocrinologist at Boston Medical Center (BMC), her clinical interests include general endocrinology, thyroid disease, iodine metabolism and maternal thyroid disease in pregnancy.

Lee serves on the editorial boards of the medical journals Thyroid and Clinical Thyroidology for the Public, and as an ad hoc reviewer of multiple journals. She is actively involved in professional societies including the American Thyroid Association and New England Endocrine Alliance.

Lee earned her MD from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and her MSc in Epidemiology from Boston University School of Public Health. She completed her residency in internal medicine and clinical and research fellowship in endocrinology at BMC/BU.

Founded in 1991, AACE is a global, inclusive community of more than 5,700 endocrine-focused clinical members, affiliates and partners from every walk of professional life.
