Goal 1: Provide a learning environment that fosters the well-being of students, trainees, faculty and staff while supporting innovation in teaching, learning, discovery and patient care.

We are committed to providing a learning environment that prioritizes the well-being of students, trainees, faculty, and staff, while fostering innovation in teaching, learning, discovery, and patient care. By valuing open dialogue, acceptance, and the celebration of differences, we cultivate a supportive and collegial community. We recognize and reward diverse academic endeavors in education, research, and healthcare delivery, and continue to invest in innovation by reevaluating our metrics of success. Our affiliates are essential partners, enhancing the breadth of clinical and research experiences for all members of our community.

Goal 2: Educate learners to provide transformative science, medicine and pedagogy

We strive to educate learners who will advance transformative science, medicine, and pedagogy. Our master’s, PhD, and MD programs are designed to support discovery and research skills and our clinical programs emphasize clinical expertise and diagnostic reasoning for comprehensive patient care. We provide broad opportunities for faculty, students, and staff to pursue scholarly and clinical interests, develop lifelong learning skills, resilience, and adaptability, and foster collaborative abilities necessary for leadership and participation in high-quality interprofessional and interdisciplinary teams.

Goal 3: Build a world-class, collaborative research ecosystem that drives innovation, enables breakthrough science, and strengthens infrastructure across disciplines and partnerships.

We will invest in a world-class research portfolio that promotes innovation across basic, clinical, translational, population, educational, and health services programs. Our strategy includes recruiting and developing top-tier faculty, enhancing mentoring and retention, expanding grant development support, and acquiring advanced technologies. We support faculty through bridge funding, pilot grants, and sabbaticals, and encourage interdisciplinary collaborations. We are committed to training the next generation of scientists, building regional centers of excellence, broadening funding sources, and strengthening administrative infrastructure to streamline research processes.

Goal 4: Provide a model for equitable, high-value, evidence based, patient-centered care at Boston Medical Center (BMC), Veterans Affairs (VA) Hospitals and other affiliated organizations and learning environments in our health system.

We aim to provide a model for high-value, evidence-based, patient-centered care across Boston Medical Center, our VAs, and affiliated organizations. Through clinical and translational research, we continuously improve systems of care, quality, patient safety, and access. Our faculty are encouraged to disseminate impactful clinical and educational innovations, and our academic promotion process values scholarship in health system redesign. We partner with affiliates to develop curricula that address the needs of diverse patient populations, particularly those with limited access to healthcare, and connect globally to improve health outcomes.

Goal 5: Continue to invest wisely in technology and library resources to facilitate learning, teaching and discovery.

We will continue to invest wisely in technology and library resources to facilitate learning, teaching, and discovery. By advancing information, Big Data, AI, and EdTech literacy, we will equip students, faculty, and staff with transferable skills that prepare them for the future. At the same time, we will ensure discoverability and accessibility of well-maintained library and technology resources that support both curricular and research needs, fostering discovery and innovation across discipline

Goal 6: Provide campus space that inspires innovative teaching, effective learning and exceptional research.

We are dedicated to providing campus spaces that inspire innovative teaching, effective learning, and exceptional research. This includes developing sustainable spaces for education, research, and student housing, improving laboratories for convergent research, and creating flexible environments that drive collaboration and growth. We address accessibility, modernization, and deferred maintenance, and ensure that classroom and community spaces support curricular innovation, student well-being, and evolving institutional needs.

Goal 7: Expand development initiatives to build a sustainable foundation for our future.

We will expand development initiatives by increasing endowments, supporting research through foundation and private grants, and leveraging alumni engagement. Our efforts include generating significant gifts during reunion years, engaging parents and families, promoting inclusivity, and encouraging planned giving. We aim to build a stronger culture of philanthropy by cultivating volunteer leaders, developing mini-campaigns for specific initiatives, and strengthening support from faculty, staff, alumni, and external partners.
