Biography

Dr. Sonia Taneja is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine and a pediatric hospitalist at Boston Medical Center. She earned her Medical Doctorate (MD) from Yale School of Medicine and her Master of Science (MSc) in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. Dr. Taneja completed her pediatrics residency at the Boston Combined Residency Program (BCRP) at Boston Children’s Hospital and Boston Medical Center, where she served as Chief Resident, Diversity Chief Resident, and Global Health Chief Resident.

Dr. Taneja’s clinical practice focuses on newborn and pediatric hospital medicine, with a commitment to health equity and advocacy for marginalized populations. Her research addresses social determinants of health, maternal and adolescent mental health, and access to HIV prevention services, supported by prestigious grants such as the Fulbright-Nehru Academic and Professional Excellence Fellowship and the HBNU Fogarty Global Health Training Program. She has published in journals like Pediatrics and International Journal of Sexual Health and delivered presentations at international conferences, including the World Association for Sexual Health.

An accomplished educator, Dr. Taneja develops and leads health equity curricula, including BCRP’s Health Equity Rounds, and teaches medical students and residents on topics like structural racism and reproductive health. She is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Society for Adolescent Medicine, and Physicians for Reproductive Health, and has received honors such as the ACGME David Leach Award and the Robert J. Vinci Award.
