BUSM Chapter Recognized by AMWA
The BUSM chapter of the American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA) has received the Heller Award for outstanding branch at the national conference in Miami, April 13-15. This is in recognition of the breadth of programming organized by the chapter. The mission of the AMWA is to advance women in medicine and improve women’s health.

Each year one chapter from each region of the U.S is recognized by the national organization. BUSM is in region 1, which includes all six of the New England states. During the past year the BUSM chapter conducted a variety of activities, of particular note is the establishment of a mentorship program between fourth and first-year medical students. Also the chapter held the annual fall dinner featuring a panel discussion with female physicians and surgeons; a screening of “Orgasm Inc.,” a documentary on the pharmaceutical industry’s pursuit of the female Viagra that included discussion with Michelle Sia, OD; and a seminar and discussion on workplace gender disparities.
Kathy Zhao, BUSM 2014, was elected as Region 1 Coordinator at the national conference
