Piwowarczyk Recognized by International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies
Lin Piwowarczyk, MD, MPH has been named the 2009 Sarah Haley Award Winner for Clinical Excellence by the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS). She is Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at BUSM and is co-founder and co-director of the Boston Center for Refugee Health and Human Rights. Dr. Piwowarczyk will receive the award at the annual meeting of the ISTSS in Atlanta in November.

The Sarah Haley Memorial Award for Clinical Excellence is given annually to a clinician or group of clinicians in direct service to traumatized individuals. The recipient of the award must exemplify the work of Sarah Haley, a well known and respected psychiatric social worker who was a pioneer in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder research.
ISTSS is an international multidisciplinary, professional membership organization that promotes advancement and exchange of knowledge about severe stress and trauma. This knowledge includes understanding the scope and consequences of traumatic exposure, preventing traumatic events and ameliorating their consequences, and advocating for the field of traumatic stress.
