Biography

I am an Emergency Physician with specific academic expertise in the intersection of infectious diseases of public health significance and the Emergency Department. I have a broad background in this arena both in terms of advanced education as well as previous research. I have received a diploma in tropical medicine and hygiene and my MPH concentration was on community based participatory research.

I am currently the PI on a programmatic grant from Gilead’s FOCUS program to expand HIV and HCV screening in the Emergency Department as well as various outpatient and inpatient settings throughout our medical center. In this capacity I interact with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure appropriate linkage to care for this vulnerable and disenfranchised population. I am a prior co-chair of the national interest group Emergency Medicine Transmissible Infectious Disease and Epidemics, and also prior co-chair of the Massachusetts Advisory Council for the Elimination of Tuberculosis, with a particular focus on eliminating transmission of TB in the ED. I am also a co-investigator on several national grants related to best practices for ED infectious disease screening projects, including screening for HIV, HCV, and syphilis.
