Biography

Dr. Abdeen is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon and Chief of Hip and Knee Replacement Surgery at Boston Medical Center. Dr. Abdeen specializes in hip and knee replacement surgery and has expertise in minimally invasive surgical techniques and innovative technologies including partial knee replacement and Direct Anterior Approach total hip replacement. Dr. Abdeen delivers personalized care for her patients with a focus on restoring physical function and improving quality of life after surgery. Her research focus is on innovations to improve outcomes following hip and knee replacement surgery.

As Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Harvard Medical School and Chief of the Division of Hip and Knee Arthroplasty, Dr. Abdeen practiced at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston from 2008-2021. During this time Dr. Abdeen served as the Director of Quality Assurance for the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. In this role, she implemented methodologies to optimize the quality of care delivered to her own patients and in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery as a whole. Practice locations during this time include New England Baptist Hospital, Children's Hospital Boston and Beth Israel Needham. Dr. Abdeen recently moved her surgical practice to Boston Medical Center in January 2022 where she is currently an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Boston University.

Her clinical expertise includes: total hip and knee replacement, minimally invasive hip and knee replacement surgery, Direct Anterior Approach total hip replacement, complex revision hip and knee replacement surgery, and partial (unicompartmental) knee replacement. She commonly cares for: hip arthritis (osteoarthritis, inflammatory arthritis), knee arthritis (osteoarthritis, inflammatory arthritis), post-traumatic arthritis of the hip and knee (due to fractures or injury of the hip or knee), hip dysplasia, osteonecrosis/Avascular necrosis (AVN) of the hip or knee, painful or failed prior total hip and knee joint replacement (due to prosthetic wear, loosening, fracture, stiffness, infection), and hip fractures.
