1/31/17 LCME Update

On February 24-27, 2019, BUSM will host a site visit team representing the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME).  As the official accrediting body for medical education programs in the US and Canada leading to the MD degree, the LCME evaluates medical schools about every eight years. The LCME accreditation process provides a valuable opportunity for quality assurance and improvement. During these next two years prior to the formal visit, we will conduct a comprehensive review and analysis of our MD educational program that will involve many faculty, staff and students.

Since our last LCME site visit in 2011, we have revised our educational programs and significantly enhanced our learning environments. Innovative academic programing has been a significant focus of the Office of Academic Affairs, with highlights such as the creation of PrISM, the new systems-based integrated foundational science first-year curriculum, expanded clinical sites that include the Kaiser Permanente Branch Campus, and the Office of Academic Enhancement established within the Office of Student Affairs.

New construction and thoughtful renovation has provided a dramatic improved living and learning spaces. Highlights include the construction of the Medical Student Residence, classroom renovations and the creation of the 11th floor Testing Center.

See the full list of enhancements and highlights since our 2011 LCME Site Visit.

I have appointed the following Leadership Team to oversee our accreditation preparations.

Faculty Accreditation Lead: Professor Deborah W. Vaughan, PhD, Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology

Self-Study Task Force Chair: Dr. Thomas Moore, Professor and Associate Provost, BUMC

LCME Preparation Staff: Rebecca Halley, Administrative Manager Office of Academic Affairs
